You will accomplish this by managing all aspects of value delivery, from demand creation through shipment. You and your team will collaborate with order fulfillment, product engineering, sales, operations, finance, and logistics/compliance to identify and understand problems, determine root causes, and drive implementation of solutions throughout the facility.
This position reports to the Sr. Vice President of Manufacturing for NOV Wellbore Technologies.
What you’ll be learning
You will apply your considerable analytical skills and understanding of process and product improvement methodologies to teach and support our effort to build highly-regarded well construction products. We will support your learning and professional development including continuous improvement training, certifications, and leadership education. Our industry is experiencing rapid adoption of increasingly stringent product requirements, and our quality systems and certifications are at the core of meeting this challenge. Leaders able to accomplish mastery over multiple functions are encouraged to devote their energies towards enhancing our continuous improvement competencies and support cross-functional CI projects.
Keys to Hiring
The best candidates are experts in manufacturing, quality systems, financial management, and facility operations. They can create and use multiple sources of information to identify problems, define solutions, and create and maintain clarity, focus, and discipline in our people and processes. Critical to this position is your excellent problem solving skills and your ability to teach and lead your team to successfully execute countermeasures, following the PDCA model. You continuously monitor the willingness and ability of team members to perform with excellence in their roles, and will provide continuing education via certification programs, on-the-job training, and coaching. You define performance goals and targets based on the needs of our customers. You are comfortable with addressing whatever problem you face next, and seek to understand the problem thoroughly before suggesting changes or taking action. Your skills are evident through past achievements in improving quality and maintaining a strong audit track record along with the implementation of new methods and systems with measurable results. You are comfortable with prioritizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously, along with supporting and developing your direct reports.
Performance Objectives
Primary Objectives: The most important performance objectives for this position are to maintain and continuously improve measured performance in safety, cost of poor quality (scrap, rework, and warranty returns), Delivery (on-time, lead time), and Cost. Your performance/success will be visible in KPIs for these categories. You will identify gaps between current and planned/desired performance, follow the A3/Plan-Do-Check-Act thinking process to deeply understand current state, identify root causes, implement countermeasures or run experiments, and then check the results and act to implement solutions. You will hire, retain, and develop team members who demonstrate the willingness and ability to perform at a high level. Your team will gather data, turn it into usable information to focus our efforts, and then implement quantifiable improvements.
Secondary Objectives: You will collaborate with your team to understand problems with our people, products, materials, and processes. During the first 90 days, you will focus on gaining in-depth knowledge of our products, our ERP system (JD Edwards), our engineering document system (Teamcenter) as well as other key systems (RigDocs, PIMS, iTrax, Tracker). This knowledge will be crucial to your ability to identify and drive improvements, and to support your team effectively. You will then apply your own learning and experience to develop and challenge your team as they engage with the rest of our operations to solve the quality-related problems we face. You will also manage the overall facility regarding operating costs, space allocation, maintenance and repairs, and code and regulatory compliance.
Role Navigation within NOV Abu Dhabi: During the first 30 days, you will meet all key stakeholders within manufacturing, and spend time with Finance, Planners, Engineers, Supervisors, Quality, Buyers, Order Management, and Warehouse/Shipping/Receiving to learn about each group and how they interact.

Begin making changes based on the learning derived from the first 6 months, working closely with your direct reports
Monitor your KPI’s for evidence of positive change
Receive feedback from team members as you execute the Plan, Do, Check, Act cycle
Develop and support your direct reports, ensuring that they have worthwhile work, the autonomy to develop and achieve their goals, and recognition of excellent performance
Address Major Problems, Changes, And Improvements
You possess a good balance of hands-on technical competency, familiarity with manufacturing and quality systems, and good understanding of requirements for calibration, inspection criteria, etc., particularly with machining processes, engineering document control systems, and ERP systems, coupled with great interpersonal skills and the ability to learn and apply new knowledge in resolving problems. Some current problems to solve within our team include improvement of work instructions and procedures on new products, collaborative reduction of scrap and rework, gaining a deeper understanding of internal and external customer needs, development of team personnel, improvements to delivery and order management, and driving a problem-solving culture. You will begin by spending time on the production floor learning about the processes and how they are performed, noting inconsistencies or lack of standard work along the way. You will then identify opportunities for experimentation and improvement. In the future, you will continue solving a wide range of problems that tie back to our safety, quality, delivery, cost, and innovation goals. Along the way, you will develop a broad understanding of how we create value, as well as deep knowledge of specific people, processes, and products. You can learn and apply structured conflict resolution methods to maintain positive progress when roadblocks develop. You believe that building an engaged, passionate, highly regarded quality team is a worthwhile pursuit. Deep respect and mutual understanding of others is core to your beliefs, demonstrated by your listening skills and curiosity. You are active, energetic, and can instill that energy in others.
